Grief has hit Gakoe village in Gatundu North, Kiambu County after a one-year child fell in a pit latrine inside the plot they have been living in.

According to Brian Machari’s mother Lucy Njeri, the baby was playing outside their rental house when she heard the child screaming for help only to find that he was at the verge of falling.

Efforts by the mother to stop the incident from happening bore no fruits as Macharia fell in seconds before she arrived to rescue him.

“I was with him when he was playing outside and only minutes after I entered the house, he crawled to the toilet. When I went to rescue him, his head was already bedding inside the toilet hole and he immediately fell upon my arrival,” the mother stated.

Kiambu County fire fighters who responded with speed managed to retrieve the body of the young soul.

The body was rushed to Thika’s general Kago mortuary as authorities commence investigations to ascertain how the incident happened.
