A bodyguard attached to Governor Paul Chepkwony and a prison warder who were on police radar over the murder of a man in Kericho town have finally surrendered to the police.

Kericho County Police boss Silas Gichunge said that the duo is expected to be arraigned in court on Wednesday, February 2.

“They surrendered and detectives attached to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) are in the process of grilling them before they are finally arraigned,” Gichunge said.

In early December 2021, the two assaulted two individuals after they accused them of stealing a beehive.

According to the police, they beat up the two suspected thieves using a hammer leading to the death of one of them.

Since the incident, one of those who were assaulted identified as Emmanuel Kiprotich is still admitted at Kericho County Teaching and Referral Hospital.

The Governor’s bodyguard allegedly frog matched the two suspected thieves to his compound where the assault took place.

In his statement to the police, John Yegon who is an uncle of the deceased said that he watched his nephew die but he could do nothing to save him.

The family is now demanding justice. “They could have sought other methods to deal with the matter instead of assaulting and killing,” he said.
