"You're stupid, nonsense." This is what Homa Bay County Rep Gladys Wanga told that court she heard in a case in which Wajir East MP Rashid Kasim Amin is charged with assaulting and injuring Wajir Woman Rep Fatuma Gedi at Parliament.

Before the assault happened, Wanga told Nairobi Principal Magistrate Martha Nanzushi that she was chatting with Amin when their Wajir West MP Ahmed Kolosh joined the conversation.

"Shortly after, I heard the phrase "you're stupid, nonsense" and when I looked behind me, Gedi was bleeding from her mouth," Wanga said.

She said that she took Gedi to the Sergeant-at-arms who directed them to the Parliament Police Station where they recorded a statement then took Gedi to Karen Hospital's CBD branch.

The Wajir East MP was charged with assaulting and injuring Wajir Woman Representative at Parliament's parking lot.

He denied the charges and was granted freedom on a cash bail of Sh100,000 bond or Sh50,000 bail.

Amin reportedly accosted Fatuma and engaged her in a heated discussion before the alleged attack.

The incident allegedly happened in the full glare of other legislators and security officers, who were manning Parliament ahead of Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich’s unveiling of the Sh3.02 trillion 2019-20 budget.

The MP demanded to know why Gedi, who is a member of the Budget and Appropriations Committee, failed to allocate money to his constituency during a recent visit by the budget team.
