Gladys Chania, the Kiambu politician suspected to have brutally murdered her husband George Mwangi, and her co-accused Morris Kamau Mbugua have each been released on a Ksh1 million bond.

Chania and Mbugua appeared before Kiambu Resident Magistrate Wilson Radin on Monday, October 24, where the magistrate declined an appeal by the prosecution to detain her for seven more days to allow police to complete their investigations.

The magistrate ordered that the accused be realized on bail as the investigators continue with their investigations.

The suspect has been detained at Gigiri police station for the past seven days after she was arraigned on Monday last week and the prosecution was allowed to hold her for a week.

She is consequently set to take her plea on Monday next week with her co-accused likely to be a prosecution witness.

A postmortem conducted by Government Pathologist Johnston Odour established that the late Mwangi died after being hit with a blunt object at the back of his head.

His body also bore cuts on his hands which was an indication that he had tried to struggle with his killers fruitlessly.

Gladys Chania implicated

Chania, who unsuccessfully gunned for the Kiambu Woman Representative during the August polls, was arrested a fortnight ago in connection with the macabre murder of her 58-year-old husband.

The deceased's charred body was found dumped at Kieni forest with investigators linking the killing to a love triangle.

It is alleged that after establishing that the father of their three children was intimately involved with another woman, Chania planned his gruesome murder.

The Rwanda-based contractor came to Kenya on September 13, 2022, not knowing that his death was beckoning.

According to reliable sources, Mwangi and his wife had a frosty relationship after she established that he was having an intimate relationship with one Lucy Muthoni.

Mwangi's family members revealed to sleuths that the deceased had introduced Lucy to family members as his second wife.
