An elderly woman from Mataara village in Gatundu North will spend the night in the cold after a fierce fire razed down her home.

The Monday morning fire destroyed all the household items belonging to Mary Wanjiru Njoroge leaving her with nothing including crucial documents and clothing.

According to Mataara Location Chief Ng'ang'a Kio, Wanjiru was alone in the house when the incident happened.

Kio revealed that sleuths have commenced investigations to ascertain the cause of the inferno stating that preliminary findings indicate that the fire may have been caused by an electric fault.

"The ageing woman was alone in the house when the fire started. Neighbours who are not far from her residence jumped into action to save her life but could not salvage any property as the fire spread quite fast," Kio said.

Kio called on well-wishers to intervene and offer Wanjiru who is a widow prayers and material support to enable her to continue with her life.

"Mataara community and Kenyans at large, we need to show our solidarity at this time when Wanjiru is suffering. Let us come out in large numbers and not only visit the family but also offer her material support," Kio said.
