Shock has hit Gakoe village in Gatundu North after a middle-aged man committed suicide over alleged stress and harsh economic times.

The body of Robert Mwaura, was found in the morning dangling from the top of a tree in their small Raini village with a rope tied on his neck.

The man who is the only son in their family is reported to have made the harsh decision after squandering money and assets given to him by his parents to help him better his life.

His parents are reported to have even sold land to help him start income generating activities but Mwaura, according to locals misappropriated money through on alcohol among other dubious ways.

Samuel Macharia, a local said that neighbours were shocked to have met Mwaura dead despite his parents having struggled to give him a decent living.

"It's sad that Mwaura had to die after all the efforts that his parents made to accord him a good life. Worst enough is that his parents sacrificed everything including selling land to help him start a business that would see his life shine," Macharia said.

Mwaura's body has since been taken to Thika's General Kago mortuary.
