Gachagua, Sonko among 25 politicians who should not run for office – agency

National Integrity Alliance (NIA) has forwarded the names of 25 politicians who it says should be barred from contesting any seat in the 2022 general election.

Among those fingered include William Ruto's running mate Rigathi Gachagua, Governor Anne Waiguru, Babu Owino, and Aisha Jumwa.

"Rigathi Gachagua was implicated in graft resulting in action by the Assets and Recovery Authority freezing accounts with approximately Ksh200 million in unexplained assets," NAI said, adding;

"He was charged in court with Conspiracy to defraud County Government of Nyeri and fraudulent
acquisition of public property."

Other politicians

Also in the list are Ali Korane (Garissa), Cleophas Malala (Kakamega), Daniel Manduku (Nyaribari Chache), Didmus Barasa (Kimilili), Evans Kidero (Homa Bay), Fahim Twaha (Lamu), Godhana Dadho (Tana River), Johana Ngeno (Emurua Dikir), John Waluke (Sirisia), Gembi Gitura (Murang'a), Lilian Omolo (Embu), Mathew Lempurkel (Laikipia North), and Mike Sonko (Mombasa).

Others are MohamedAbdiMohamud (Wajir), Muthomi Njuki (Tharaka Nithi), Oscar Sudi (Kapseret), Philip Kaloki (Nairobi), Samson Cherargei (Nandi) Samuel Arama (Nakuru Town West) and Sospeter Ojaamong (Busia).

"The 25 individuals listed have been Red Carded. After an objective and impartial investigation, we hold that they are not fit to serve in any appointive or elective public office.

"Some of these individuals in Red Card 2022 were also Red Carded in 2017. The list is presented in alphabetical order and not in order of the severity of offences or cases," the lobby group said.
