United Democratic Alliance (UDA) presidential running mate Rigathi Gachagua was on Wednesday, July 13 forced to cut short his political campaign tour in Meru County after two groups of rowdy youths started throwing stones at each other.

Gachagua was addressing a rally in Mutuati, Igembe North when the incident happened.

The Kenya Kwanza Coalition presidential running mate took to social media to condemn the incident.

"Any person who thinks of using our unemployed youths to cause violence is primitive and will be ashamed by the resounding Kenya Kwanza victory in the next 24 days.

"This election gives a good democratic chance to choose leaders who have people's interest at heart and service to our country," Gachagua wrote on his Facebook account.

Gachagua moved to safety

Police officers swiftly whisked Gachagua away from the scene.

The chaos is said to have been caused by local politics involving UDA candidates in the county.

Gachagua later proceeded with his campaign rallies.

He has been in the county for the past three days.
