As the year ends, we take a look at bizarre news that hit headlines from Kisii county in 2021.

Killing children and committing suicide

In September, a sombre mood engulfed Bochura village, Nyatieko location, Kitutu Chache South constituency in Kisii County after a middle-aged man hacked his children before committing suicide.

Bochura Area Chief Lawrence Omari said Daniel Makori, 44, is suspected to have killed his two children aged five and seven using a panga before he hanged himself using a wire.

Omari said it is alleged that the suspect had squabbles with his wife, Naomi Nyaboke, who fled and left him with the children in the house, adding that police have launched a probe into the matter.

Assaulting son for bedwetting

In another shocking incident, a middle-aged man allegedly assaulted and injured his four-year-old step-son for bedwetting at Maili Mbili, Nyaribari Chache sub-county in Kisii County.

Victor Rabuko, a health records officer at a private hospital in Kisii and the stepfather of the victim, broke the child’s left arm after giving him a thorough beating.

Kisii County Police Commander, Francis Kooli confirmed the incident.

Killed for losing Ksh10

Shifting gears to yet another bizarre story, police in Kisii arrested a 25-year-old woman suspected of killing her nine-year-old daughter after she lost ksh10 meant for chapati in May this year.

Grace Nyandusi killed the minor on the evening of Saturday, May 22 after she lost the money meant for buying chapati in Nyaribari Chache.

Calvin Kengara who is the area Assistant Chief said that the girl’s father was away in Nairobi where he is working.

Hacked family members the surrendered to police

That aside, on Sunday, December 19, a man from Kisii reportedly hacked his wife and two children in Gesoni village before he surrendered himself to the police.

Daniel Asiago who had been known to have domestic fights and issues with his wife committed the heinous act and surrendered to Nyatieko police station within Kisii township.

Immediately after leaving his family members for dead, agitated villagers torched his two-roomed semi-permanent house as police watched from a distance.

The three; his wife and the children who sustained serious injuries, were rushed to Kisii Level 6 Hospital for treatment.

Witchcraft

Four people in October were lynched in Mbanda area, on suspicion of involving in witchcraft with their bodies burnt beyond recognition.

According to the Area Assistant Chief Evans Nyabiba who reported the matter, residents arrested and lynched two people on suspicion of involvement in witchcraft but when the police arrived at the scene of crime two more were found already burnt to death.

“The area assistant chief reported that residents of Nyagonyi village in his sub-location had arrested and lynched two people on suspicion of witchcraft. The sub-county security team immediately visited the scene and found two more people already lynched, and their bodies burnt beyond recognition,” a statement by the police read.
