Four people die in Wajir County after their vehicle ran over explosive device

Four people on Wednesday, February 2, died after a vehicle they were driving in ran over an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Wajir County.

In a police report seen by K24 Digital, the terror incident took place at 10:30 am in a place called Erga along Wajir- Gerile road.

The attack also took place 14 kilometers West of Gerille Station.

“A motor vehicle make land cruiser ferrying foodstuffs was today February 2, 2022 attacked by a landmine at around 1030rs about 14Kms West of the station at a place called Erga along Wajir Gerile road,” the report read in part.

Officers drawn from the Kenya Defense Force (KDF) and Kenya Police Service (KPS) drawn from Gerille are cleared the area.

Outgoing North Eastern region Police boss Rono Bunei said that all four died in the incident.

“The vehicle had four occupants and they all died,” he said.

Intelligence reports in the recent past have revealed that militants have been sighted within the vast North-Eastern region.

Just a week ago, herders reported that they had sighted a number of militants making rounds in the region.

Equally, yesterday it emerged that suspected militants are also planning to carry out an attack in a police station located in the vast North-Eastern region.

“When the report office personnel are busy taking their fake report, they make a surprise attack. Also, their suicide bombers have planned to detonate themselves near police station armories,” the report read in part.

According to a police report, the matatu was travelling from Arabia to Mandera when it hit the device leaving five people dead.

The Incident took place 8 Kilometers from Mandera town.

After the explosion, six attackers who were said to be behind the incident reportedly sprayed bullets on the wreck of the matatu using PK Machine guns and RPG Machine guns
