Four people lost their lives while three others sustained serious injuries after being involved in an accident at Malturo along the busy Narok-Mahi Mahiu highway.

The accident which occurred yesterday at around 7pm was caused by a trailer which was over speeding lost control and hit on head with an oncoming lorry before bursting into flames.

"I noticed something strange when the trailer overtook me and within a fraction of a second I saw the trailer rolling several times," Mutua, a tour guide who witnessed the accident, said.

The lorry was headed to Narok while the trailer was transporting tea to Nairobi.

The other vehicles which got involved in the accident were a pickup and a Toyota Axio.

“The driver of the trailer reportedly lost control of it after hitting bumps before ramming a lorry forcing it to roll, catching fire moments later,” another witness said.

Members of the public and police officers took more time disengage the vehicles from the trailer to get the mangled bodies.

Confirming the incident, Narok County Police Commander Kizito Mutoro said the injured were rushed to Narok Referral Hospital and they are in a stable condition this morning.

“The bodies were removed from the scene. The injured are in hospital recovering and in a stable condition. I want to call on the drivers to be careful while on the road,” Mutoro said.

The mutilated bodies were moved to the mortuary a waiting for postmortem.

According to the locals the area is now a black spot as six people were killed on the same spot last week.

They have now issued an ultimatum to the government to remove the bumps which are dangerous and have claimed several lives.

"The state will have to remove these bumps. If they don't heed to our pleas then we will remove to save innocent lives," Godfrey Maloi, a local resident, said.
