Four people die after Land Cruiser V8 rams into stationary lorry along Garissa- Nairobi Highway

At least four people perished on Friday afternoon after a car they were in hit a canter ferrying water at Bangale along Garissa- Nairobi Highway.

Tana North Sub-county police boss Ali Ndiema said that the deceased; a lady, two men and a teenager are yet to be identified.

He further said that the lorry was not on motion and the driver rammed into it.

“The lorry was parked in the midst of the road and immediately after the grisly road accident the driver and turn boy of the lorry went into hiding,” he said.

It has also emerged that the lorry was carelessly parked on the wrong side of the road.

Images from the scene of the accident captured how the front part of the land cruiser was totally damaged.

The lorry was slightly damaged on it’s rare part.

The driver of the private car incurred critical injuries and was rushed to Garissa County Referral Hospital for treatment. The bodies of the four were also taken to a morgue.

In a recent data that was released by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), in the last one year 3,114 lives have been lost due to deadly road accidents.

The data further reveals that the main causes of the accident include reckless driving, dangerous overtaking, drunk riding, drunk driving, drunk walking and failure to use helmets.

In 2020 alone 1,108 pedestrians, 275 drivers, 424 passengers lost their lives due to deadly road accidents.
