Four people dead after bus crashes head-on with trailer at Manyani area, Mombasa highway

A Busia-bound bus was on Wednesday involved in a road accident leaving four people dead and several others injured.

The bus carrying 44 passengers, was involved in an accident after it collided with a trailer head-on near Manyani along Nairobi-Mombasa Highway.

The bus driver is said to have been attempting to overtake a trailer when it rammed on its container, losing control and swerving on the path of an oncoming trailer heading the opposite direction leading to a head-on collision.

The bus service, Dreamline Express LTD, which has since confirmed the accident revealed that the drivers of the bus and the trailer died on the spot following the accident.

A female passenger who was seating on the bus front seat and the trailer's conductor also died.

"We wish to confirm that our Busia-Mombasa Bus KCU 965C was today (Wednesday, December 22) morning involved in an accident with a trailer near Manyani where both drivers died on the spot," the bus service said.

Voi Sub-County Police Commander Bernstein who also confirmed the accident revealed that five people who sustained serious injuries and several others with minor injuries from the accident have been taken to Moi County Referral Hospital.

The deceased bodies were also taken to the hospital's morgue.

“The injured have been rushed to Moi County Referral Hospital for treatment. A probe has started on this tragic incident,” Shari said.
