Former rugby player Alex Olaba was on Monday arraigned and charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

Olaba pleaded not guilty before Chief Magistrate Francis Andayi.

The former rugby player is charged with two counts of conspiracy to murder and conspiracy to defeat justice.

Particulars of the offence are that on 14th April 2021 and 22nd April 2021 within Nairobi county jointly with others not before court conspired to kill K.A.

The second count reads that on 22nd April 2021 at an unknown place within the republic of Kenya jointly with others, not before the court conspired to defeat justice interfered with the trial process in the matter S.O 27/2020 by attempting to cause the death of the key witness K.A.

The prosecution earlier in the morning before magistrate Zainab Abdul made an application to cancel the bail terms of the accused in the ongoing gang rape case citing interference of witnesses in the matter

Prosecutor Eva Onuga asked the court to cancel the Sh300,000cash bail issued to Alex Olaba until the case is heard and determined, she claimed that the attempted murder of the key witness is interference to justice.

Principal magistrate Zainab Abdul ordered Olaba to be detained at Industrial area prison pending her ruling of the application Tuesday 4th May.

Olaba's arraignment comes after he was arrested a week ago. He has been in detention for 7 days.
