Anyanga was arrested on Wednesday, July 26, 2022, for shooting 35-year-old Justus Ochieng on Saturday, July 22, 2022, shortly after he left a local pub at Lwanda Konyango at around midnight.

According to a police report seen by K24 Digital, the former Nyatike MP and the personnel in his vehicle confronted Justus and his friend Calvin Omondi accusing him of going against his political ambition and
it was then that Anyanga discharged his firearm and shot the victim on the right side of the hip.

“MP candidate Nyatike constituency Edick Anyanga Omondi and his personnel who started threatening Justus Ochieng while inside the vehicle claiming that he has been going against his political ambitions and in the process Omondi discharged his firearm shooting Justus on his right side of the hips and sustained injuries,” the police report read in part.

His arrest followed a demonstration held by Tom Odege and his supporters who protested that the assailant was still at large three days after he committed the offence.

Addressing the media, Odege claimed that after shooting Justus, Anyanga went ahead and step on him frustrating efforts by people around to take him to the hospital.
