Former Mathira Member of Parliament Matu Wamae is dead aged 85.

According to his son Patrick Wamae, the former legislator passed away yesterday ( December 14, 2022) night at a Nairobi hospital after a long illness.

Wamae served as Mathira MP between 1983 and 1985 before losing the seat to Davidson Ngibuini Kuguru and later recapturing it from 1992 to 2002.

He also served as the chairman of the new Kenya Cooperative Creameries for 20 years.

Nyeri Senator Wahome Wamatinga has eulogised the former legislator as a man who reformed Mathira in a big way during his tenure as the MP as well as reforming the new KCC.

Wahome says Wamae also revived many businesses when he served as the ICDC Chief Executive Officer.

"It is with a deep sense of sorrow and loss that I have come to learn of the demise of a hero. The late Hon. Matu Wamae was once the MD ICDC, Mathira MP and lately the chairman of New KCC.

"He was among the key advisors to former President HE Mwai Kibaki, and he will be remembered for his great contribution to economic recovery in Kenya. May God grant solitude to his Family. RIP mzee," Wahome mourned.
