Former Catholic Priest accused of stealing Ksh15.4M from NGO denied bail

A former Catholic Priest Ambrose Otieno Denis Ongwen who is accused of stealing Ksh 15.4 Million the property of seeds of Peace Africa International will spend the weekend in custody.

This is after Milimani senior principal magistrate K. Ondieki directed the accused to be remanded at Capital hill police station until Monday, November 15, 2021, when the court will rule on his bail application.

The former priest was charged with one charge of stealing on Friday morning following his arrest on Thursday by Directorate of Criminal Investigations officers.

Otieno denied that on diverse dates between January 2019 and February 2021 at seeds of Peace Africa International, North Star Building along Lenana Road in Kilimani within Nairobi County jointly with others
not before the Court stole Ksh 15, 429, 250 the property of Peace Africa International.

Otieno denied the theft charges and urged the court to grant him reasonable bond terms on grounds that the offence he was charged with is a civil matter that is ongoing before the High Court.

The prosecution informed the court they are not opposed to his release on bail but urged the court to grant him stringent bond terms that are commensurate with the amount in the charge sheet.

Otieno is married to three wives after being expelled as a Catholic Priest.

In the case, the Prosecution has lined up five witnesses to testify against the accused, in the case which will be heard and determined before City Court.
