Residents of Saruyot village in Uasin Gishu county are reeling in shock after a Form Four student killed his ex-girlfriend and her one year old baby.

According to a villagers who spoke to the media, Douglas Kipchumba is said to have travelled over 20 kilometers to his ex lover's village seeking reconciliation.

"This girl was in Form Three and the boy who killed her has been here for the past week asking her to be his girlfriend again," one of the residents said.

In a statement, the girl's mother is said to have confronted the boy and asked him to leave her daughter alone after she spotted him hanging around her homestead.

"I was going about my business when I saw that boy around my fence, I wanted to beat him up but people who were around stopped me. After that he left," the girls mother said.

It's alleged that the Form Four student was jealous after his former lover turned down his advances, something villagers say is the main reason he committed the heinous act.

"The girl used to school with her ex-lover at Biwott Secondary School before she moved to Saruyot Secondary School where she met with the father of her baby who is also a student. The boy who killed Hilda was not the father of her baby," the villager said.

After committing the murders, Kipchumba is said to have left marks leading to where he dumped the bodies before he consumed poison.

However, the effect of the poison was slow and he was discovered alive and writhing in pain along a river in the area.

The murder suspect is receiving medication at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital Eldoret.
