A 21-year-old football coach has died from coronavirus.

Francisco Garcia, a Spanish youth team coach at Atletico Portada Alta had a pre-existing health condition having been suffering from a form of leukaemia.

For an individual of his age, Garcia was more vulnerable to the coronavirus though he only got to know of having cancer after going to the hospital with coronavirus-like symptoms.

Garcia, according to the Spanish newspaper Malaga Hoy, was asked to seek medical assistance after developing breathing difficulties.

At the hospital, he was informed that he had both coronavirus and pneumonia.

Had he not been suffering from leukaemia, Garcia would likely have survived the coronavirus infection, disease experts said.

"We want to express our deepest condolences to the family, friends and close friends of our coach Francisco Garcia who has left us, unfortunately," his club said in a statement after his death.
