A deadly firearm assigned to a police officer who committed suicide has been recovered after two years of frantic search by authorities.

Police in Kirinyaga county recovered the firearm which had been missing for over two years following a tragic incident involving one of their own.

Firearm was loaded with 19 bullets

Confirming the recovery, Kirinyaga East Sub-county police commander Antony Mbogo said the firearm got lost in 2020.

It appears that the deceased officer may have thrown the weapon in the river. "We lost a security officer who died by drowning and we have been thinking that it (the firearm) might have landed in the wrong hands," he said.
