Firefighters are battling a raging inferno that broke out at the Mombasa Hospital in Kizingo on Tuesday evening.

The cause of the fire, which reportedly started at 8:30pm, is yet to be known.

K24 Digital understands that the blaze broke out at the Children's ward.

Rescue operations were ongoing as at the time of going to press.

The exact number of patients or occupants of the private hospital remains unknown.

Mombasa Hospital, which operates for 24 hours daily, is the oldest and largest private healthcare facility in Coast region.

The 125-bed capacity medical centre reportedly has 450 dedicated staff, which includes 170 nurses.
