Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 55-year-old retired Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) soldier, whose body was found dangling from a rope tied to the rafters of his neighbour’s house at Kapkiamo Village in Baringo North Sub-County early Wednesday.

Kimosop Chepkwony allegedly committed suicide after his wife reportedly cheated on him with their married neighbour.

Chepkwony’s brother, Aaron Yegon, told K24 Digital that Chepkwony often complained that his spouse, 40, was secretly seeing the next-door neighbour -- also a retired KDF soldier -- since 1997.

The deceased’s other brother, Kiptui Cherutich, told K24 Digital that Chepkwony was seen buying a sisal rope at Kapkiamo shopping center on Tuesday evening.

“He also bought several sticks of cigarettes and left in frustration,” said Cherutich.

“We did not know where he went to thereafter,” added Cherutich, who revealed that Chepkwony did not spend Tuesday night at his home.

“On Wednesday morning, we heard our neighbour’s wife screaming that she had seen Chepkwony’s body hanging from the rafters of her house,” said Cherutich.

Police arrived at the scene -- the backyard of Chepkwony’s neighbour’s house -- and took the deceased to a Baringo hospital mortuary.

The deceased’s family now claims Chepkwony could have been killed, and his body planted at the scene, “given his feet were touching the ground, when his body was discovered”.

The alleged lover of Chepkwony’s widow and his wife were arrested and taken to a Baringo North police post.

Baringo County Police Commander, Robinson Ndiwa, said they have commenced investigations into Chepkwony’s death.
