Embu residents in shock after three children die in house fire

Police in Mbeere South Embu county are investigating circumstances under which three children were burnt to death in a fire incident in Rianguo village, Gachuriri location.

According to Gachuriri sub-location assistant chief Collins Njeru, The three siblings aged 13,9 and 1 year, were in the house alone when the fire broke out.

It is suspected the siblings had lit a candle because darkness had entered, before the tragedy.

The chief said he received a call at around 11:00pm over the fire incident, then he went towards the direction and upon arriving found that it was true that the house had caught fire.

He said that he first called the police from Gachoka police station who responded immediately.

''We first put off the fire which was remaining and then we started removing the chad remains of the house to see whether the house had people only to find three children had burnt and died inside the house,''the assistant chief said.

The administrator said nothing was salvaged.

The chief revealed that the children had been sent by their mother who operates a business at Yonda market, to precede her and handed them over to a boda boda rider to take them home.

''Watoto walikua wametumwa na mama yao waende nyumbani kabla yeye afunge kazi ndio awafuatilie na ndio sasa tunasema lazima tupee wenye wanafanya uchuguzi wakati wafanye uchuguzi wa kina,'' the assistant chief said.

He further warned parents against leaving children alone in the houses to avert such risks .

The bodaboda rider has also been questioned.

The bodies of the three have been moved to Embu level 5 hospital motuary
