A man and his wife were sentenced to 20 years in jail for torturing their 9-year-old child by an Embu court.

The court heard that the two tied their son to a chair before hitting him several times using a dog leash.

The parents also reportedly poured cold water on the chair where the minor was tied for two days.

According to court documents, the man and his second wife were punishing the child for visiting his grandmother against their wish.

During the torture, the minor suffered detached nails, swollen arms and pus-filled ears.

The minor was rescued from the hands of his inhumane parents by his siblings.

The court also heard that the parents also assaulted the victim's siblings for rescuing him.

The children were, however, rescued from the cruelty of their parents by their uncle who later filed a formal complaint to the police.

While making the ruling, Embu Senior Resident Magistrate Juliana Ndeng'eri noted that the parents do not deserve to be near any child.

The suspects are said to have committed the crime on July 2, 2021, at a time when the child's biological mother had moved out of their matrimonial home.
