Embattled Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa has been arrested over alleged graft in the country's football governing body.

Mwendwa's arrest come a day after Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed disbanded the federation and formed a 15-member caretaker committee.

Justice (Rtd.) Aaron Ringera was appointed to chair the committee, whose mandate will include conducting all the FKF affairs.

The new Committee on Friday, November 12, 2021, suspended all top-tier football leagues for a period of two weeks.

Led by Justice Ringera the committee stated in a press statement, that its members unanimously decided to suspend; The FKF Premier League, FKF National Super League, FKF Division One, FKF Women's Premier League and FKF Women's Division 1 League.

The committee assured football fans that it will work to ensure smooth operations of all football activities across the nation.

The move by CS Amina to appoint a committee follows recommendations by an inspection committee she formed to investigate the national football organization that is facing allegations of administrative corruption.

World football governing body, FIFA, has since threatened to ban Kenya due to the government's interference in the internal affairs of the football federation.
