The Embassava tout accused of pushing a 17-year-old boy off a moving bus has been arrested.

He is currently cooling his heels at Capital Hill Police Station after he was handed over by officers from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA).

The suspect is accused of pushing the minor after a scuffle over a Ksh20 balance in an incident that occurred along Outering Road on Wednesday, May 17, 2023. The boy died after he was run over by the same bus.

Consequently, angry Kenyans present at the scene torched the bus.

However, the driver of the bus refuted the claims noting that the boy fell after he attempted to go after a phone he had forgotten.

"I carried people from Pipeline when it was full and we were heading to town. When we got near Kware, the conductor signalled me to stop to allow passengers to alight," he said.

“In the process of switching lanes to alight people, I felt like I had stepped on something like a stone. When I checked the side mirror, I saw it was a person," he added.

His sentiments were corroborated by the Chairman of Embassava Sacco, Benson, who noted that the claims were confirmed by the deceased's brother.

"We have followed through on the matter and as a Sacco, we are very sorry for what happened to the family. I talked with the brother and he told me that his brother had forgotten his phone and in the process of contemplating whether to go for the phone he was struggling with the conductor but the door was closed," he said.
