Embakasi DCI officer arrested for allegedly shooting dead a guard at hotel lodging

A DCI officer attached to Embakasi Police Station has been arrested following a shooting incident that left one person dead.

The officer, Simon Mwongela, is said to have shot dead a security guard on Thursday at 4 am at a lodging in Masimba, Kayole.

The shooting incident came after the DCI officer was reportedly embroiled in a quarrel leading to the scuffle.

The confrontation erupted after Mwongela reportedly visited the premises and demanded the gate be opened for him so that he can get room to sleep.

Reports say he had been on overnight duty.

The DCIO was reportedly denied entry by the guard and he in consequence fired at the guard hitting him in the chest. He died on the spot.

Senior detectives led by the Deputy County DCI Gikaro boss Moses Ndindi visited the scene of the crime to assess the situation.

He said the accused is under detention adding that he will be arraigned under miscellaneous application to continue holding him pending investigations.

This is after the police Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai ordered a probe into the incident.
