Eliud Kipchoge, Collins Injera feted in new documentary as Safaricom celebrates 21-year anniversary

Marathoner Eliud Kipchoge, Rugby star Collins Injera and athletes Catherine Ndereba, Henry Wanyoike are set to be feted in a yet-to-be-released documentary. 

In a statement made on Friday, November 5, Safaricom said it featured the athletes in the documentary dubbed “Road to Gold’ as it marks its 21 years anniversary. 

“Over the last two decades, Safaricom has continued to support and transform the lives of various sportsmen and women in the country. Through events that we continue to sponsor such as the Safaricom Athletics Series, Lewa Marathon, BLAZE eSports, and Chapa Dimba Na Safaricom, we have seen that sports have the potential to build cohesion among Kenyans in addition to nurturing talent,” Safaricom CEO Peter Ndegwa said. 

The sports documentary will also feature Tegla Loroupe as well as current and past officials from various sports federations.

“We are particularly proud of the transformation witnessed among our youth as a result of investments we have made in various sports disciplines,” the Safaricom CEO added. 

Safaricom has invested over in sports activities in the country over the years ranging from football, athletics, motorsport, E-Sports, and rugby to golf and charity runs. 

In the year 2021, the company said it has spent over Ksh100 million supporting various events including the WRC Safari Rally, Kenya’s teams to the Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics as well as The World Athletics Under 20 Championships held recently in Nairobi.
