The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has dropped investigations against Chuka University Vice-Chancellor Professor Erastus Njoka for suspected falsification of academic documents.

In a letter dated Thursday, September 9 from the anti-graft agency addressed to Prof Njoka, EACC said it arrived at the decision after investigations were undertaken in a professional, impartial and credible manner guided by the principles of fairness and integrity.

“The commission pursuant to its mandate in Section 11 of the EACC Act commenced this investigation upon receipt of a complaint that Professor Erastus Njoka used forged secondary school certificates to pursue Undergraduate studies in Russia,” EACC said in its letter to Njoka.

In August, Prof Njoka recorded a statement with EACC Upper Eastern offices in a matter that elicited mixed reactions from members of the public.

However, after investigations, EACC has written to Njoka informing him that the case against him had been dropped.

“We wish to inform you that the Commission in exercising its responsibilities in Section 25 of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act has reached a decision to discontinue the said investigation and has no intention of pursuing it any further,” the letter signed by EACC Deputy Chief Executive Officer Abdi Muhamud read.

Njoka holds a post-graduate diploma in research and a doctorate degree in animal production, majoring in special zootechnics, all from the Peoples' Friendship University of Russia.

The VC also has a master's degree in animal production from the Moscow-based university.

After serving as dean at Egerton University's Faculty of Agriculture for about five years, he took over as the director of the university's Eastern campus from 2005 to 2008.

Njoka served as the principal of Chuka University College from 2008 to 2013 when the institution was chartered and was later appointed its vice-chancellor, a position he has held to date.
