A 37-year-old Maurice Macharia, a driver at Kathangariri tea factory in Embu County, has made history after defeating candidates he was competing with to clinch Nginda Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) seat on the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.

Macharia garnered 5,645 to beat his closest competitor John Gat.

It was his first attempt to seek the seat.

He says his ambitions to contest were occasioned by his quest to salvage the locals from perennial challenges facing them.

"I used to serve the farmers and I mingled with them daily and they loved my services. I decided to extend my services to the whole Nginda ward that has three locations and Embu county as a whole," Macharia said.

He said when he declared his ambition, the locals welcomed the move.

"I decided to seek election wholeheartedly and I had confidence that I would get it and it has come to pass," Macharia said.

While thanking the locals for giving him the opportunity, he said he will ensure the implementation of the manifesto that he sold to his people.

He said he wants to change the status of health, education, and agriculture in the ward.
