A funeral in Motosiet Village, Trans Nzoia county was disrupted after the area Assistant Chief stormed the compound of the late Diana Nanguda demanding that mourners observe the Covid-19 containment measures.

Wamalwa stormed the funeral ceremony after she was informed by one of the mask vendors that mourners were neither wearing masks nor observing social distancing.

The angered administrator then ordered all those who had no masks on to leave the funeral ceremony even as some of the mourners refused to do so arguing that they schooled with her.

“We went to school with you. You can not bully us. You must allow us to mourn our fellow villager,” some of the villagers shouted.

It is then that she resorted to the use force as those who refused to bulge were photographed by her aids for further action after the funeral.

“I need all of you alive. Those who do not have masks should leave this place to avoid infections and make sure when you stretch your hands you do not touch your neighbour,” she ordered.

Instead of obeying the orders, the irate villagers resorted to a shouting match with the local administrator who stood her ground saying that they either follow the rules or she stops the funeral.

“I won’t listen to your pleas. It is either you mask up or we call off the funeral and I am taking these photographs for further action on those who have no masks,” she said.

The local catholic church presiding over the funeral was not spared with the administrator saying they were notorious for breaking Covid-19 regulations.

“The church should spearhead the Covid-19 measures. I have three funerals and cannot follow the locals arranging them as the church should be the first ones to ensure you members adhere to laid down rules. So let 's keep social distance before padre arrives or the funeral is stopped, ” noted the agitated chief.

Some of the locals shouted down the chief saying that there was no corona in villages claiming that Covid-19 is a disease for city dwellers.

“People from the villages do not suffer from Corona. This disease is only found in towns,” the villagers cried out further infuriating the local administrator who threatened to call police for strict enforcement.

What angered the chief was that most of the mourners were keeping their masks in their pockets.
