Drama intensified at the Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital on Thursday, June 3 after Laikipia MCAs stormed the facility seeking an explanation over the alleged sorry state of health services.

The MCSs made the surprise visit to the hospital after angry residents held demonstrations at the health facility's main gate complaining of poor services.

The residents demonstrated following two deaths that occurred at the hospital.

On Monday, May 31 a 58-year old woman died at the waiting bay as nurses celebrated a colleague's birthday.

In the same facility, a 24-year-old mother of two died on Tuesday after bleeding to death, 'with no proper care.'

Led by Laikipia Assembly Health Committee chair Veronica Ikunywa, the MCAs wanted an explanation as to why the hospital was not delivering good services even after the county allocated millions to the health sector.

"This sad scenario also explains why our patients have always been referred to other facilities in Othaya, Nyeri and Kiirua hospital in Meru," the Health Committee chair said.

Also present was Majority leader Joseph Kiguru who lashed out at the management of the hospital saying they have failed in their mandate to provide quality healthcare to the people of Laikipia.

He also noted that the senior management has been intimidating the junior staff who have been trying to expose the sorry state of this hospital.

Thingithu ward MCA Stephen Kagondu said they want an immediate action taken against those who have been idling in their responsibilities.
