Deputy President William Ruto on Wednesday hailed the Building Bridges of Initiative report for proposing strengthening of the Opposition.

But DP Ruto also cautioned against the possibility of the BBI report being hijacked by elites to serve their own interests.

"As this process moves to the next stage, majority of the issues that were canvassed by Kenyans were about the ordinary people. Your excellency, you have put a perfect plan in the Big 4 Agenda to solve those problems," said Dr Ruto.

The DP said he agreed with the leaders that all Kenyans must interrogate the BBI document for themselves.

"I think to a great extent, the job has been cut out for those in Parliament on what they must do. But you must be informed by the opinions and comments of Kenyans," said DP Ruto.

Dr Ruto applauded the BBI team for a "robust document" that will the basis for a national conversation.

"The recommendations inform us on how to build institutions of governance, submit to the rule of law, and rid our country of the politics of ethnicity and personalities to issues that will set pace for the transformation of our country," said the DP.
