Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacist and Dentist Union (KMPDU) Chairman Chibanzi Mwachonda is among 86 doctors who were on Wednesday sacked by the Mombasa County Government.

The doctors were sacked for gross misconduct after they failed to report to work as ordered by the county government that is headed by Governor Hassan Joho.

In a letter signed by Mombasa County Secretary, Jeizzan Faruk, a total of 86 doctors were dismissed and asked to return county property with immediate effect.

The doctors were fired after failing to return to work following the signing of the deal with the Ministry of Health ending their long strike.

KMPDU boss Mombasa County, Dr. Abidan Mwachi, maintained that they will contest their sacking in court.

This comes just a day after Council of Governors (Cog) Chairman Wycliffe Oparanya dismissed a December return to work formula inked by the doctors union and the national government.

Two weeks ago, President Kenyatta intervened and oversaw an agreement that saw doctors agree to get back to work.

According to the CoG boss, counties did not have a budget allocation to cater for the demands raised by doctors.

This saw clinical officers issue a 48-hour strike notice.
