Dickson Mararo: Man who shot two police officers, waitress at Quiver Lounge charged with attempted murder

City businessman Dickson Njanja Mararo, the suspect behind the shooting of two police officers and a woman at Quiver Lounge in Kasarani, Nairobi, has been charged with attempted murder.

Appearing before Milimani Chief Magistrate Martha Mutuku, Njanja denied three charges of attempting to kill the three victims on July 2,2021 at the hotel.

According to a charge sheet filed in court, the prosecution said that on July 2, 2021, at about 10pm at Quiver lounge in Kasarani sub county, Nairobi county, Njanja attempted to cause the death of officers Fetus Musyoka, Lawrence Muturi and waitress Felistas Nzisa by shooting them at a close range.

The move to charge the businessman after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations has concluded its probe into the matter.

However, the prosecution says it intended to oppose the release of Njanja on bail pending the hearing of his trial.

They are seeking until Tuesday next week to file an affidavit detailing the grounds to have him denied bail.

The court heard that officer Musyoka who shot in the neck is still admitted in Nairobi hospital in critical condition despite undergoing a surgery.

The accused had been detained on Tuesday last week after Chief inspector Geoffrey Ndatho attached at DCI sought more time to conclude the investigations.

Investigating officer Ndatho had informed the court that on July 2,2021 the suspect Njanja armed with a firearm, shot three people at a club namley Club Quiver within Kasarani in Nairobi county.

"That the two of the victims were identified as police Constable Lawrence Mururi from Kasarani police station and police Constable Festus Musyoka from starehe Nzisa who was shot in line of duty," Ndatho said.

The victims were rushed to hospital where police Constable Lawrence Muturi who was shot on his arm was treated and discharged while the waitress Felistas Nzisa and the other officer namely police Constable Festus Musyoka were admitted.

Ndatho said that after the shooting Njanja ran away from the scene of crime and had been in hiding until July 5,2021.

The court heard that a glock semi-automatic pistol and 38 rounds of 9mm ammunition were recovered from the suspect.
