DCI arrest members of Githurai-based gang linked to murder of Keagan Githua

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) have arrested four suspects linked to the brutal murder of Keagan Githua.

DCI in a statement on Tuesday, November 16, 2022, said that the suspects were arrested in different locations - one was nabbed in River Road while others were arrested in Githurai.

The suspects were trailed for about two weeks as DCI sleuths from Starehe consolidated crucial leads before launching the operation at 4 am.

"The detectives based at DCI-Starehe mounted a dawn operation that began at a city toilet along River Road, where they pounced on the first suspect before heading to Githurai, where the rest were arrested and the deceased’s smartphone recovered," DCI said in a statement.

Gang based in Githurai

DCI further indicated that from their investigations they were able to establish that the gang linked to the murder of Keagan Githua operates from Githurai.

"After a detailed analysis of the gang’s modus operandi, was conducted by sleuths based at the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, who have since established that the gang operates from Githurai area," the statement from DCI added.

"An operation to arrest more members of the gang is currently ongoing in Githurai and other parts of the city. As detectives move with speed to deal with the gangs terrorizing city residents. We continue to appeal to members of the public to provide information regarding criminal gangs anonymously, through our #FichuakwaDCI toll free line 0800 722 203," the statement added.

Keagan Githua's murder

Keagan Githua, who had recently graduated from Strathmore University with a degree in Information Technology, was killed in cold blood by robbers on a motorbike who stabbed him in the chest before they fled after taking away his mobile phone.

The deceased was stabbed on October 30, 2022, at Ridgeways, Kiambu county.

The 24-year-old succumbed to his injuries on arrival at AAR hospital along Kiambu road where he was rushed by a Good Samaritan.

His family and Garden Ridgeways Residents Association held a vigil at the scene a week ago.
