Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe has directed Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA) to produce Personal Protection Equipment (PPEs) to counties despite their pending bills.

Addressing the media at Harambee House on Friday, July 30, the CS noted that KEMSA has refused to provide PPEs to selected counties due to their pending bills.

As a result, CS Kagwe under his ministry directed KEMSA to produce the equipment to the counties in a bid to curb the spread of COVID-19.

"Ministry of Health has directed KEMSA to supply PPEs to counties despite the status of their pending bills because there are counties that are saying they are they are unable to get PPEs on grounds that they have not been paid by the treasury and in turn, KEMSA is refusing to provide these PPEs," he said.

He further urged countries to ensure that there are adequate PPEs in Level 2 and 3 hospitals where patients visit frequently.

"Counties are also urged to ensure that they have adequate PPEs in all hospitals including the Level 2 and Level 3 hospitals where more people are presenting themselves and for the healthcare workers to ensure that as a matter of procedure and as a matter of work to ensure that they stay protected with proper PPEs," CS Kagwe said.
