Police in Kayole station are on the spot for allegedly locking up two minors who got lost within the estate on separate days.

The details have emerged after a group of activists working with an organisation called Usikimye were nabbed and locked up in the cells for picketing without permission.

Led by Ruth Bange the activists were shocked to find the two minors identified as Joseph Mumo and Joseph Wachira who were picked by the officers are in classes Five and Three respectively.

According to Bange, Wachira schools at Imara Daima primary while Mumo is a pupil at Kitulo Primary school in Vihiga.

“While being held in the police cell for hours, the activists noticed the two little boys and she asked them what happened to them and why they were in the cells,” a statement seen by Usikimye read in part.

This prompted the activists to get a better way they could get one of their phones.

It is then that Bange started screaming saying she needed her phone in order to call home ad her baby is brought for breastfeeding.

As soon as they got the phone, the activists took photos of the two minors.

Mumo said that he had recently come to the city to visit his uncle and he got lost while playing with other kids.

Wachira said that he had gone to take a friend to the shop and that is how they disappeared.

The incident comes at a time when minors are disappearing at a high rate with others being found dead.

According to missing child Kenya, a non-profit organization at the forefront of reuniting missing children with their kin released a report showing over 300 children have gotten lost in the country.
