Covid-19 Update: 723 test positive as positivity rate stands at 10.5 per cent

The Ministry of Health has announced that 723 people have been infected by the Coronavirus in the past 24 hours.

In a statement to the Press on Saturday, July 17, MoH said the total confirmed positive COVID-19 cases hit 192,435 with the virus positivity rate standing at 10.5 per cent.

“From the cases 678 are Kenyans while 45 are foreigners. 377 are females and 346 males” the Ministry said on Saturday “The youngest is a seven-month-old baby while the oldest is 98 years,” MoH said.

According to the ministry, Kenya has tested 2,050,236 since the first case was announced in March 2021 .

Across the country, 1,150 patients admitted in various health facilities countrywide, while 4,346 are under the Home-Based Isolation and Care program.

“130 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 41 of whom are on ventilatory support and 60 on supplemental oxygen,” the statement said in part.

Nairobi had 229 cases, Nyeri 86, Kiambu 72, Mombasa 67, Busia 27, Nakuru 27, Siaya 26, Machakos 24, Uasin Gishu 24, Kericho 19, Bungoma 18, Nandi 12, Kajiado 11, Makueni 6, Taita Taveta 6, Laikipia 4, Garissa 4, Kisumu 4, Embu 3, Kirinyaga 3, Bomet 2, Kitui 2, Tharaka Nithi 2, Trans Nzoia 2, Kakamega 1, Meru 1, Narok 1, Nyamira 1 and Baringo 1.

Meanwhile,1,139 patients are said to have recovered from the disease.

1,084 of the new recoveries are from the Home-Based Isolation and Care program while 55 are from various health facilities across the country.

MoH said the total recoveries now stand at 181,682 out of which 145,138 are from the Home Based Care and Isolation program, while 36,544 are from various health facilities countrywide.
