Director of Public Prosecution has opposed the release on bail, of a house help accused of stealing over Ksh100 million from her employer.

DPP claims that the house help, Shellomett Kiprono Jerop, is a flight risk as she fled from Lang’ata in Nairobi to Baringo County after stealing from her employer and has no place of abode where she can be traced from.

"Witnesses have also been interfered with. There is also an allegation that the accused persons are from one family. It's a reason enough for them to escape as a family," DPP argues.

Jerop is charged alongside Caleb Nagomere Rasto, Agaziva Brain Kenneth, Jackline Minayo Kinzi, and Eunice Akinyi Moi with the said theft.

Rasto, Agaziva, and Eunice who were charged earlier were released on a bond of Ksh7 million which was later reviewed to Ksh1million.

In an affidavit by DCI investigating officer Hellen Koech, the court heard that the theft case was reported by one Athanus Mutiso Makau an employee of Impression Advertising Limited on behalf of Samar Alkindy who was the complainant in the matter.

Alkindy who is a resident of Lang’ata had left the country on April 29 for Oman where she went to visit her husband who lives there leaving behind the said househelp to take care of the homestead.

On May 5, Mutiso accompanied by his colleague Dickson Aseka drove to the residence of Alkindy where they were scheduled to meet some contractors but on arrival, they found the compound locked from the outside.

The househelp was not at home and she was unreachable on her two cell phone numbers by the time the representatives of the contractors arrived.

Mutiso called a sister of her boss one Khadija Alkindy who usually has spare keys to the gate to send the keys. They accessed the compound where they found the front door of the main house locked and the servant quarter doors where the house help lived were wide open.

According to DPP, Jerop was arrested within Eldoret township and she led the detectives to her hide-out in Kabarnet township where she had rented a house.

The court heard that after the search in her house, cash amounting to Ksh372000, $20, 200, assorted electronics, and household goods recently purchased.

The trial magistrate Elector Riany said she will rule on the matter on June 22. The Magistrate further issued a warrant of arrest against one of the accused persons, Rasto, for failing to appear in court and issued summons to his surety.
