A Narok County court on Monday freed two girls aged 14 and 16 who confessed to having circumcised each other on Christmas eve.
Narok Chief Magistrate George Wakahiu freed the two, saying that the girls were minors and that the prosecution had failed to produce appropriate charges against them.
Mr Wakahiu instead directed the Children's Office to ensure the two sisters undergo intensive counselling.

A medical check –up at Narok County Referral Hospital proved that the two had undergone Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) as they had fresh cuts on their private parts.
The primary school pupils were arrested early December after a tip-off from members of the community who suspected they had undergone the cut after going missing for several days.
Earlier on, the court had directed the Children’s Office to engage the girls by counseling them because of the trauma they had undergone.
The girls confessed that their parents often had domestic quarrels and were forced to live in their grandmother’s home where they performed the act.
FGM cases have been rampant in Narok County but the vice is carried out silently undercover for fear of the law.
The prosecution found it a challenge to find witnesses even in the few cases brought to court with communities adopting a code of silence.
