Baringo: Cop slips into river, drowns

A soldier attached to the Rapid Deployment Unit, on Thursday, March 17 drowned inside Lake Baringo.

John Muinde Kathini of RDU Juliet Company wing was doing operations within Baringo County where he met his untimely death.

A statement by RDU revealed that the deceased was in the company of six others.

“The Rapid Deployment Unit family network regrets to notify us all of the untimely demise of Mr. John Muinde Kathini which occurred along lake Baringo ,” the report read in part.

He died at a time when he was undertaking administrative duties together with his colleagues at the shores of Lake Baringo and he accidentally slipped and fell into the deep waters of the lake.

However, his colleagues managed to retrieve his body from the lake.

“As a family, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the RDU fraternity, families, friends and colleagues of the fallen officer and his kinsmen within Kitui County, Matinyani Sub-County in Ndalani village,” the statement read in part.

Meanwhile, the body of a missing Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officer identified as Francis Oyaro has finally been found and positively identified.

The body was amongst the several others that were recently retrieved from River Yala.

According to Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo, police officers should ensure that they fully investigate the matter until his family gets justice.
