A police Constable based at Kabete Police Station shot dead his lover and five other boda boda riders before turning the gun on himself on Tuesday around 2:00 am.

Nairobi Police Commander said Constable Benson Imbatu ran berserk and first shot his lover only identified as Carol before proceeding to Mountain Mall where he shot the five riders.

A neighbour, Purity Cheruiyot, told the police that she heard a loud bang from the officer’s house before it caught fire.

He then drove back to his residence at J Heights Apartments where he shot himself dead.

According to residents, the lover used to work at a local bar where they fell in love.

“We have launched investigations to establish the motive of the shooting. Two other people are undergoing treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital,” a senior officer told K24 Digital.

The firearm, an AK47 rifle of serial number 4915724, was recovered with only four rounds of ammunition, implying he had fired 26 rounds.

“The process of identifying the victims has begun,” police said.
