Cop shot dead, another injured after confrontation with thug in Kahawa West

One police officer was killed and another injured during an operation in Kamae, Kahawa West, Nairobi, on Monday, July 4, 2022.

The officers were pursuing a suspected burglar in Kahawa West at the time of the incident.

In a police report seen by K24 Digital, the suspect identified as Ibrahim Ali Mwarabu alias Stepa refused to surrender and opened fire at the officers.

He shot and killed Sergeant Grevious Otieno of Lungalunga police station on the spot and injured Nicholas Kiremi of Industrial area Police Station at the collar bone.

"He was ordered to surrender; however, he retaliated by shooting at the officers where CMM NO.224263 SGT Grevious Otieno of Lungalunga police station was fatally injured and PC Nicholas Kiremi of Industrial area Police Station was injured near the collar bone," the police report read in part.

Apparently, during the confrontation, the suspect jumped through a perimeter wall and took cover in an open septic tank, shooting indiscriminately at the cops.

Reinforcement teams from Kahawa West and Kasarani neutralize thug

He was later cornered and shot dead by reinforcement officers from Kahawa West and Kasarani.

The police recovered a Czeka Pistol with one round of ammunition and two spent cartridges. A homemade gun capable of firing was also recovered under the suspect's rented house mattress.

Constable Kiremi was admitted to Kenyatta University Teaching Research and Referral Hospital, where he is in stable condition.

Police officers moved the body of their deceased colleague to Kenyatta Memorial Home while the suspect's body was taken to City Mortuary, awaiting identification.
