A convict serving a life sentence at Kamiti Maximum Prison has been jailed to serve three years after he admitted to defrauding a job seeker Ksh800,000 claiming he would assist her in securing a job at State House.

Patrick Shikure Amere admitted to having obtained the money from Dr. Selina Vukinu Ambe alleging he would assist her to get a job as a Human Resource Manager at the State House.

The convict was jailed by Milimani Law Courts' Chief Magistrate Wendy Micheni.

The magistrate while passing the sentence, ordered the State to ensure he serves the sentence even if his appeal in the previous offence succeeds or gets a presidential pardon.

"I have noted the fact that the accused is serving a life imprisonment sentence. I, therefore, order the three-year sentence to be served by the accused even if he is pardoned by the president or in any case his appeal succeeds," the magistrate ruled.

An attempt by the convict to be transferred to another prison hit a brick wall with the magistrate directing that he continues to serve the sentence at the high-security detention.

He claimed that he was held in a solitary cell which is used for keeping foreigners and Members of Parliament.

He further alleged that he was shifted after requesting to disclose senior prison officers involved in the fraud syndicate.

Chief magistrate Wendy Micheni Kagendo ordered DCI to carry out investigations into the allegations by the prisoner.
