Controversial East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA) Member of Parliament Florence Jematia was early last week caught up in a rape scandal, K24 Digital can now reveal.

K24 Digital has established that just three days after she was released from custody over an alleged hate speech, Jematia joined revellers at Club 1824 Whiskey Bar and Lounge in the company of three individuals; a lady namely P.M and two men identified as; Kipkorir Yego and Elisha.

Notably, Florence had been arrested on February 4, for alleged incitement remarks she made at Lomoiywet in Baringo South in January.

She had been captured on a video clip asking residents of Mochongoi in Baringo South Constituency, to raise funds to purchase guns.

“We want a PayBill number. We want to buy guns for every household in Mochongoi all the way to Baringo North...If you own a motorbike then you can purchase a gun,” she was heard saying.

After her arrest and arraignment in an open-air court, she was released on bond after spending two days in the police cell.

On Monday, February 7, she was at Club 1824, in the company of the three persons, where they enjoyed their night before leaving the premises in the wee hours of February 8 using a vehicle that had a Tanzanian registration number. Florence was the driver.

She dropped the three at a rental apartment within Lang’ata estate where Elisha lives before she proceeded to an unknown destination. Sources have revealed to K24 Digital that Elisha and Florence are close friends.

Once in the house, Elisha retired to bed leaving P.M and Kipkorir in the living room.

A few minutes later, P.M who says she had met Kipkorir for the first time after months of phone communication requested to be allowed to catch some sleep.

To her surprise, she says Kipkorir turned violent and insisted they sleep in the same room and demanded sex.

P.M told this reporter that the uncontrollable Kipkorir wondered why she would travel all the way to come to sleep in a man’s house without getting cosy.

“I was shocked at how he instantly changed into a beast after we enjoyed moments together at the club. He went to an extent of assaulting me when I requested to leave for a safer place,” the 21-year-old woman told K24 Digital.

According to the victim, the suspect became ungovernable and forcefully removed her clothes before eventually raping her severally.

At the time, the victim was wailing and screaming in pain which not only attracted the attention of the sleeping Elisha but also neighbours in the apartment who responded swiftly and demanded that the door be opened.

She told K24 Digital that the suspect even choked her as he committed the heinous act.

“At the time, I was confused and I remember a few people asking me to dress up while they got hold of Kipkorir,” she said.

“The neighbours then called police officers from Lang’ata Police Station who went and picked Kipkorir and me,” she added.

At the station, the matter was recorded under OB number 30/2/2022 before P.M was asked by the police to first get a P3 form and seek immediate medical attention before further action is taken.

K24 Digital is in possession of the medical report which reveals that the victim was sexually assaulted and she had swellings on her private parts.

The report further revealed that her neck was tender, following endless choking and slapping.

After getting the medical attention and report, she was accompanied by her father and her cousin to the police station where she says things took a turn. This time around, she says they were never handled well by the investigating officers and that Kipkorir had been mysteriously freed.

Interestingly, investigations by this reporter reveal that the suspect was arraigned in Kibera Law Courts and released on a Ksh300,000 bond or a cash bail of Ksh100,000 without the knowledge of the complainant.

“I would really wish that I was informed about his arraignment so that I also go to court and testify on what happened,” the victim narrated.

Lang’ata Police boss Benjamin Mwathu confirmed to K24 Digital that indeed the matter had already been taken to court.

“The police will closely follow up the matter and ensure that the victim gets justice. We also ask men to be careful on their moves because such issues can land them in serious trouble,” Mwathu said.

This reporter also found out that the next hearing will be on Wednesday, February 23, and that the family hopes to be part of the hearing in pursuit of justice.

“All we want is justice. We have been in the dark for the longest time but we hope that we should be in court to testify,” P.M’s father told this reporter.

K24 Digital is also in possession of videos in which the suspect is recorded asking the victim for forgiveness in exchange for money.

However, the victim denied it as she maintained that all she was interested in was getting justice.

This reporter reached out to the suspect (Kipkorir) who confirmed knowledge of the incident but promised to link us with his lawyers. He later switched off his phone making it difficult to reach his lawyers as promised.

“The matter is currently in court and I'm headed to Mombasa for a political function. I will link you up with my lawyers,” he said, before hanging up.

We sought a comment from EALA MP Jematia who was at the centre of this saga but she went mute after responding to our first inquiry.
