Ailing boxer Conjestina Achieng has dismissed death reports circulating on social media.

Speaking to members of the press at Mombasa Women Empowerment Network hospital, the legendary boxer said she is responding well to treatment and that she looks forward to returning to the ring soon.

"I am doing well. I am responding well to treatment. Those who were saying I am dead I want to tell them I am alive. It's bad to spread fake news about someone without facts," Conjestina said further urging Kenyans to continue praying for her.

"I want to recapture my IBF title locally before I retire. If sponsors can chip in, I will be glad and appreciate it," the boxer who was in high spirits added.

Conjestina has been receiving treatment at the Mombasa Women Empowerment Network hospital since July this year when former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko came to her rescue.

Speaking after paying Congestina a visit at the hospital, Sonko said the boxer has shown a big improvement.

“Achieng has improved, and I have brought her the training equipment. I would want her to train other girls to be like her,” Sonko stated.

Mombasa Women Empowerment Network facility chairperson Amina Abdalla also confirmed that the patient is responding well to treatment.

“As per our medics, Achieng has completed her first stage of treatment and she’s stable enough. She’s now in the second stage of treatment which allows her to engage in extra curriculum activities such as training in boxing which she loves. However we want her to do it slowly,” she said.

“She cannot take the drugs and at the same time train fully. She maintains hygiene, as usual, eats very well, and takes her drugs on time. We have high hopes in her, she will fully recover because we offer the best treatment."

The officer said Congestina will be in the facility for another six months to allow her to recover fully.

Sonko offers to help Congestina Achieng

Sonko, who has helped Congestina before, came to the rescue of the 44-year-old after her photo went viral on social media raising concerns about her health.

Many people who shared and commented on the viral picture expressed concerns about Conjestina’s mental and general health, asking authorities and well-wishes to go to her rescue.
