Residents of Kiaheho village in Kiharu Murang'a are reeling in shock after a form three student committed suicide Wednesday afternoon.

The body of Lucy Waithira, a student from Kiangochi secondary school, was found dangling from the roof of their house where she was living with their grandmother.

Hanna Wanjiru, the area assistant chief claimed that the student might have taken her life after having issues in her romantic relationship.

She said a few weeks ago, Waithira posted on her Facebook page that on 1st December will be her last day on earth bidding friends goodbye, and today in the morning she posted a teary emoji.

Wanjiru said the deceased was an orphan living with her granny and two other siblings.

The administrator further revealed that the grandmother had told her that the girl had developed a habit of getting home late after school and when reprimanded she became sulky.

"There was a time she slept out and when the grandmother asked her about it, she became defiant" she added

Wanjiru said they suspect this could have been driven the girl to take away her life terming it as unfortunate.

On the day of the incident, the student did not go to school on Wednesday claiming that she was sick only for her to commit suicide.

Rose Wangari deputy principal Kiangochi secondary said she got a call from home that the student had committed suicide.

Wangari said the deceased had spent the previous day in school in a jovial mood and had not shown any signs of distress.

"We are shocked because we had not seen such a thing coming as the girl was very obedient and had no disciplinary issues," she said.

"We are hoping to get more information from the family of what could have transpired leading the girl to take away her life," she added.
