Some Thika residents have raised concern over proliferation of prostitutes in the town.

They said commercial sex workers were lining up outside their businesses, in parking lots and along Uhuru Street, which has affected their businesses negatively.

The residents said presence of the prostitutes has increased harassment of passers-by.

“Some girls are selling their bodies for as little as Sh50 during the day. This has affected our businesses because customers fear going to some streets,” said Joel Irungu, a resident.

“It is time the government re-thinks job creation. Unemployment, and high cost of living are to blame for this situation,” said Jane Mwangi, a resident.
