A Class Six pupil has been arrested after he stoned his teacher to death in Shihumbu Village, Shinyalu Constituency in Kakamega County.

The incident happened on Sunday, March 14.

The learner, who studies at Shihumbu Primary School, fatally stoned Maurice Khataka, 46, after Khataka, who is the boy’s teacher and uncle, refused to let the pupil, 14, draw water from Khataka’s well.

According to Khataka’s widow, Eveline Mwenje, her spouse and the 14-year-old boy had protracted differences, dating back to 2020, when the boy stole Khataka’s items.

“Last year, the pupil stole my husband’s phone and radio,” said Mwenje.

Recounting how the fatal stoning occurred, Mwenje said: “On Sunday, the boy entered our compound while carrying several jerry cans. My husband stopped him from drawing water from the well. The boy started walking away. However, before he could go far, he picked a fairly big stone and threw it at my husband, hitting him on the head.”

“I rushed my husband to a nearby hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after being admitted to the facility,” added Mwenje.

Shinyalu police boss, Robert Makau, confirmed the incident to K24 Digital, saying the pupil is being held in lawful custody at Shisasari Police Station.
